A BYLAW OF THE OMEGA CIRCLE CEMETERY CLUB CONCERNING OMEGA CEMETERY

THE OMEGA CIRCLE HEREBY RESCINDS ALL BYLAWS PERTAINING TO THE OMEGA CEMETERY

THE OMEGA CIRCLE ENACTS AS FOLLOWS

  1. The price of a plot in the new and old areas of the Omega Cemetery has been set at $105.00 of which $25.00 goes to the person marking the plots.
  2. Cremation plots for two (2) people are $105.00 if purchasing a new plot. Any additional burials of cremated remains on this plot will require a fee of $25.00 per burial (not to exceed four (4) burials per single plot).
  3. Burials of cremated remains on existing plots require a fee of $25.00 per burial (not to exceed four (4) burials per single plot).
  4. The price of a niche in the Columbarium has been set at $500.00 per niche which includes the openings for placement of two (2) urns of standard size or smaller and a memorial plaque. An opening fee of $75.00 will be charged for any purpose other than the original placement of urns. The purchase of a niche, plaque and all other niche related items must be arranged for and purchased through the Omega Circle.
  5. Fences, trees, shrubs or cement borders must not be placed on or around plots or lots. Any existing trees, shrubs or bushes placed on or around plots or lots are to be maintained by the family. If family is unavailable or unable, maintenance will be at the discretion of the Omega Circle.
  6. All bases for erecting of monuments or markers shall be level, be flush with the ground, be made of concrete, be at least four (4) inches in depth, underlayed with six (6) inches of compacted granular materials and extend not less than four (4) inches beyond the extreme lateral dimension of the monument or marker. All persons erecting monuments or markers shall ensure that such monuments or markers are firmly secured to the bases and that the foundation is adequate to carry the monument or marker.
  7. Monuments must be constructed of stone resistant to weathering and cannot be constructed of concrete. In certain cases, at the discretion of the Omega Circle, metal may be used, but it cannot be subject to oxidation. Upright monuments shall not exceed forty (40 inches in height, eighteen (18) inches in width and thirty-six (36) inches in length and flat markers shall not exceed two (2) inches in height, eighteen (18) inches in width and thirty-six (36) inches in length, unless the monument is for two plots and in such cases, the length may be seventy-two (72) inches.
  8. Plaques or markers in Block 7 will be placed on the existing cement base.
  9. Grave covers are not allowed on plots or lots.
  10. All plots or lots will be seeded to grass.
  11. Anyone wishing to use a backhoe or digger in the Cemetery should first obtain permission from the person marking the plots.
  12. A truck or tarp must be provided for surplus dirt, and it must be taken care of within three (3) or four (4) days.
  13. There will be no burials from freeze up until spring thaw; however, at the discretion of the person marking the plots, burials may be done during the winter months. No monuments shall be erected from November 1st to April 30th except at the discretion of the person marking the plots.
  14. Minimum requirements are a wooden rough box. Minimum requirements for double burial (one on top of each other) is a cement rough box for the bottom grave. No grave shall be less than six (6) feet in depth from the surface of the surrounding ground. No grave for the burial of cremated remains shall be less than eighteen (18) inches in depth from the surface of the surrounding ground. Where two (2) caskets or coffins are placed in one grave above each other, the top of the outer case of the first casket or coffin shall be at least six (6) feet in depth from the surface of the surrounding ground.
  15. No vehicles other than maintenance vehicles or the hearse are allowed throughout the Cemetery and all these vehicles must enter and remain on the designated roadway.
  16. No interments shall be made in the Cemetery until the provisions of the Public Health Act and Vital Statistics Act of the Province of Alberta have been complied with, and with any regulations issued thereunder.
  17. No Interments shall be permitted in the Cemetery unless a proper Burial Permit is produced by the party responsible for the burial. The person responsible for the marking of plots must be notified of all intentions for burial at least forty-eight (48) hours before the time of interment. Opening and closing of a plot is the sole responsibility of the party responsible for the burial.
  18. If additional markers, other than the headstone, are used they must be flush with the ground, as the lawn mower must be able to go over them.
  19. The Omega Circle reserves the right to take responsibility to deal with the overall appearance of the Cemetery. E.b. Removal of old, weathered or broken flowers, decorations/ornaments etc., removal or pruning of overgrown or dead shrubs, bushes and/or trees.
  20. In order to hold an office in the Omega Circle, you must have been a member for at least one (1) year. The term lengths of office are as follows: President – two (2) years, Vice-President – two (2) years, Secretary – two (2) years, Cemetery Committee – two (2) years and Treasurer – five (5) years. If at all possible no more than two (2) officers should be elected in the same year.
  21. Before any monument installers, workers or heavy equipment enter the Cemetery, the person marking the plots must be notified and an appointment made.

ADDENDUM

With reference to Bylaw #19, wherein the Omega Circle reserves the right to deal with the overall appearance of the Cemetery E.g. Removal of old, weathered or broken flowers, decorations, ornaments etc., removal or pruning of overgrown or dead shrubs, bushes and/or trees, we enact the following addendums:

  1. All flower holders, decorations such as solar lights and / or ornaments must be made of metal or steel only and must be able to withstand the wind, the weather and the grass trimmer with is necessary to trim around the headstones to maintain a tidy appearance in the Cemetery. No decorations, flowers and/or ornaments of any kind are allowed on the main body of the grave to facilitate grass cutting. Decorations, flowers or ornaments in moderation are only allowed by or on the headstone and must be wind, weather and grass trimmer resistant to facilitate grass trimming and maintain an overall tidy and pleasing appearance.
  2. In order to maintain the overall aesthetically pleasing appearance of the Omega Cemetery the following schedule will be maintained, weather permitting: Summer season – cleanup and removal of old, weathered or broken and windblown flowers, decoration or ornaments will be done as often as necessary to facilitate grass cutting and grass trimming.

    After Decoration Day there will be a two week grace period before clean up and Cemetery preparation for the fall and winter season begins.
